  • Internal color diagnostic camera used to inspect airframe from inaccessible areas
  • Removal of existing finish if warranted for new finish process

All existing airframes will have any components removed by the owner as required by Blackbird Finishes to facilitate the finish process. Under no circumstances will any fuel or batteries be allowed to remain in the airframe nor stored on the shop premises. All receivers, power boxes or other sensitive and critical components are strongly urged to be removed from the plane. We cannot guarantee 100% that any overspray or sanding dust will not intrude into the interior of the aircraft although we certainly take great measures to keep it to an absolute minimum. The painting preparation process is inherently a dusty one, it does travel everywhere. Depending on the airframe the installation of landing gear and other attachments can prevent the required level of preparation required for the finish and can present handling problems with the airframe itself. So please take the precautions and strip the airplane of the components before getting it to us. We reserve the right to refuse to start any work until these conditions are agreed upon and met.

Finishing costs can vary greatly from aircraft to aircraft, many things play a part in determining the cost to complete the job. Price quotes are certainly available after a thorough discussion of what you would like to have done to the airframe. Condition of the airframe and required preparation are some of the most significant factors in that determination. Once a scheme is decided upon, approved and the job scheduled no further design changes will be allowed without first discussing the proposed changes and revisiting the original quoted cost. A 20% deposit is required at start of job with the balance due upon delivery of the aircraft.

No preparation work of any kind shall be performed by any person without the approval first of Blackbird Finishes.
